Never has Boletaria looked so good, and the lighting and spell effects really bring the game to life. Demon’s Souls Remake has raised the bar for Elden Ring, which is only good news, since From will likely have to up its game or face serious backlash. What you might find particularly amazing is the interaction between the NPCs and the player as you help them on their way.

Regardless of how it’s obtained, the Lava Bow will provide 55 physical piercing damage, while also adding in the 100 fire damage that helped it land its name. It’s also worth noting that the fire damage that it imbues on arrows scales with the player’s Magic statistic. Demon’s Souls is known for its tough boss fights, but there are handy methods to tackle each battle that can erase its difficulty.

Bluepoint Games imported most of the original combat data but rerecorded the animations and voice lines with a few of the actors returning. You’ll need to complete the Shrine of Storms and acquire the Storm Ruler — but this is the best place to farm souls, and it’s completely trivial to earn as many as you’ll ever need by returning here. Just past the archstone, you’ll encounter special Reaper enemies. Shoot them with arrows to kill them — one Reaper will drop 4,000 souls when defeated. This is likely a welcome change as telling whether you were in pure black or just before it could be challenging back in the original, but for many the UI may feel somewhat off. It’s hard to describe, but the “You Died” screens are missing “something” and the overall UI seems too clean and lacking the “grunge” look we have come to expect from souls games.

Barring some small tweaks, the design of the game is identical to From Software’s original. The core mechanics are unchanged, the enemies are placed in the same positions and behave in the same ways, the devious tricks and traps are still there, ready to catch the unfamiliar off-guard. Companies have slowly been dipping their toes into a $70 price for new games, so this might be the end of the $60 standard. Hopefully PC games will still get a slight discount in some cases, but regardless, there’s always the next Steam sale. This new version of Demon’s Souls is being developed by Bluepoint Games, seemingly without From Software’s collaboration. Even if the remake never gets a PC port, you can at least play the original via emulation, with greatly improved resolution and framerate.

For now, enjoy this incredibly beautiful remaster of a classic game that many of us are finally getting a chance to experience. Whether these items will remain exclusive to the Digital Deluxe Edition or make it into the regular editions of the remake is not yet known. The Demon’s Souls remake was announced back in June at Sony’s PS5 reveal event. The ten-year-old title has been completely remade with an impressive visual upgrade, which definitely helps to revitalize the original Souls game so that it can appeal to the modern generation of players. Although the original reveal did not emphasize any major gameplay differences from the initial release apart from the complete graphical overhaul, Demon’s Souls practically looks like a brand new adventure.
